First Sunday Shakespeare
Do you miss the theater? Love language? Enjoy the thought of communing with others around great works of art? Join us for First Sunday Shakespeare! We’ll meet by Zoom every month, distribute parts randomly, and read our way through Shakespeare’s plays out loud together. All are welcome! No prior experience or participation is required. This will be a comfortable environment as we stumble joyously together through magnificent prose and some ripping good stories--to say nothing of traversing the heights and depths of the human experience. It's great fun!
Here's how the program works: We’ll meet, randomly distribute parts, and then dive right in and read the play together. People enjoy the experience more when they know the story of the play. If you aren't familiar with the play, it might help to read a summary or watch a movie.
If you don’t own a copy of the play, it can be found online in many places. You can view it from whatever device you’re using to Zoom on, or on a second device that you have at hand. I recommend that you try several sites to see which works best for you in terms of readability, etc. A few possibilities are:
Join us on the first Sunday of every month at 4:00 p.m. or at 6:30 p.m., or on the Tuesday following at 6:30 p.m.
(In September, due to Labor Day falling on the first weekend of the month, we will be meeting on the second Sunday, the 12th, and the following Tuesday, the 14th, instead of the first Sunday. We will be selecting our play in August.)
