Preserving Our Past

John and Phoebe Stebbins have preserved the memories of the late 19th and early 20th century for the entire community.  Recognizing the historical importance of the knowledge and memories of life-long or long-time residents of Hanover and Etna, John and Phoebe Stebbins began a series of interviews visiting people in their homes and asking them to tell their stories.  

The early recordings were made on a reel-to-reel recorder and were later transferred to audio cassette.  The audio cassettes were given to Howe Library by Ann Cioffi, daughter of John and Phoebe Stebbins. The cassettes were edited and transferred to WAV format using Adobe Auditio, then transferred to MP3 format.  Download and listen to the following audio files:
