The Howe Library Corporation Reaches Capital Campaign Goal
and Receives The Kresge Foundation Grant.

Hanover , NH . The Howe Library Corporation has reached its Capital Campaign goal of $5.5 million.  The Corporation raised over $3.75 million through private donations. $1.5 million was borrowed from the United States Department of Agriculture through a 30 year rural development loan.  The Kresge Foundation funded the final $250,000.

The Howe Capital Campaign was chaired by Joan P. Fowler and Ralph N. Manuel.  Joan (Posey) Fowler is also the chair of the Howe Corporation Board of Trustees. Posey was also a Trustee in 1975 and was very instrumental in the building of the original building in opened on December 8, 1975. Posey and Ralph join in thanking over 1800 families who gave to make this project happen.

Marlene McGonigle, Director of The Howe Library commented, “We are most appreciative of the patience and good will our users have demonstrated during the upheaval of construction.  In turn the staff deserve congratulations on maintaining a high level of service and a positive, sunny attitude.  The community volunteer brigade helped us move collections no less than ten times!!  The result of your help and your generous donations is a truly beautiful “new” Howe Library.  My heartfelt thanks to everyone.”

The Howe Library renovation and addition funded through The Howe Library Corporation and the generosity of the community will increase the size of the building from 18,000 to 30,000 square feet providing patrons with 60% more space.  The new wing will offer children and teens their own collections and program spaces. An all-inclusive periodical area will bring together electronic and print media.  An art gallery will showcase area artists.  The anticipated completion date for the new library is early fall 2005.  A public grand opening itook place on Sunday, October 23, 2005.
